Mathematics History
A rough timetable of Western mathematical pursuit is as follows:
- Prehistoric: Before roughly 3000 B.C.
- Egyptian: 3000 B.C. to 1600 B.C.
- Babylonian: 1700 B.C. to 500 B.C.
- Greek: 600 B.C. to 200 B.C.
- Greco-Roman: 150 A.D. to 525 A.D.
- Islamic: 750 A.D. to 1450 A.D.
- Western: 1100 A.D. to 1600 A.D.
- Modern: 1600 A.D. to the present
This list excludes non-Western centres of mathematical activity,
such as China, Japan, India, and the Maya, Aztec, and Inca empires.
