[Math Lair] Berries

Math Lair Home > Puzzles & Problems > Berries

Berries is a mathematical/word game/recreation of mine. The name is a homonym of "Berry's", as in G.G. Berry's Paradox, after which Berries is loosely based.

The idea behind Berries is to choose a certain number of syllables, and then to find as many numbers as you can that can be expressed in the English language using no more than that number of syllables. For example, if you set a limit of two syllables, numbers that could be expressed in two syllables include 7 ("seven"), 25 ("five squared") and 288 ("two gross"). Try two syllables and see how many numbers you can come up with. If you have some free time, see how many numbers you can express using no more than three syllables.
